“Regardless of party affiliation, I believe we all aspire to some of the same basic things: the opportunity to get a good education; the opportunity to earn a living wage for an honest week’s work; the opportunity to provide for your family today and save a little bit for tomorrow; the opportunity to be judged solely on the content of your character, free from discrimination; the opportunity to be safe in your own community; and the opportunity to live and raise a family in a clean and healthy environment.
“Life is action and passion. It is required of a man that he should share the passion and action of his time at peril of being judged not to have lived.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr.
Those words hung on the wall in my grandmother’s house, and I looked at them often growing up.
